Back in the early 1900s, sugar mogul Henry Oxnard had big plans to sweeten the Central Coast, using its acres of farmland to grow and process sugar beets. He even wanted to name the settlement after the Greek word for sugar—Zachari. But, in a plot twist, he named it after himself. Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach takes a nod from Henry’s original vision (and that almost-sweeter name), bringing a dash of history and charm to every stay.
